The story of Chris Gardner a salesman who is struggling to bridge the gap between his commissions and the actual demands of his daily life something which impacts excessive pressure that sees him losing his marriage.
His sales experience teaches him swiftness and at one time he runs out of taxi cab to avoid paying the fare. After meeting a friend who connects him for an interview as a stockbroker intern, he is arrested the night before the interview for failure to pay a series of parking tickets and he spends the night at the police station yet he has an interview that following morning and soon as he is released, he runs straight to the office for an interview and despite his shabby appearance he passes the interview due to his honesty and resilience. But this is just the beginning since the opportunity has no payment attached to it until the end of the internship period where one broker is picked out of the 20 applicants, he struggles as a homeless, single father intern and finally succeeds in beating all the other interns to the job thereby beginning a career that sees him starting his own brokerage firm
